These tots are a great way to get veggies into your baby or toddler with yummy seasonings and a delicious cheesy flavour. The sweet potato and carrot create a natural sweetness, and the mashed veggies are nice and soft for little mouths. Shaped into little tots/fingers, they’re perfect for tiny hands to grasp and nibble on—great for baby-led weaning and for keeping veggies interesting and yummy for toddlers.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed (approx. 650 g)
  • 2 carrots, peeled and cut into chunks (approx. 300 g)
  • 1⁄2 cup grated tasty cheese (mild cheddar)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1⁄2 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1⁄2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

Prepare vegetables

Peel, chop and steam vegetables. Using a pot with a steamer attachment and lid, add water and bring to a boil while you prep. Once chopped, add veggies to the pre-heated steamer and steam for 10–15 minutes, or until carrots and sweet potatoes are soft.

Prepare your mix

Mash the vegetables with a potato masher, then add the remaining ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon until combined.

Shape, bake and serve

On a lined baking tray (you may need two), shape the mixture into tots/fingers and bake for 20 minutes at 180°C. Serve warm (but not too hot!).
