Spinach Banana Waffles – Fun, Kid-Friendly Breakfast (7+ Months)
These spinach banana waffles are a healthy, delicious and fun way to get more greens into your child’s diet. You simply add everything to a blender, blend and cook in your waffle maker. Packed with spinach, naturally sweetened with banana and made with wholesome ingredients, they come out soft, airy and perfect for babies practicing baby-led weaning (BLW) or transitioning from purees to solids.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup oats
- 1 ripe banana
- 1/2 cup spinach
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil
- 1/4 cup non-dairy milk
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Directions
- Add all ingredients to a blender — oats, banana, spinach, egg, avocado oil, non-dairy milk and baking powder — and blend until you get a smooth batter.
- Spray or brush your waffle maker with a little oil, then pour in the batter.
- Cook for about 3–4 minutes, or until the waffle is cooked through and lightly golden.
- Serve alongside fruit and yogurt and enjoy!
Serving Suggestions for Different Ages
7 Months and Up: Cut the waffles into strips for easy grabbing. Serve with unsweetened yogurt or mashed fruit for dipping.
9 Months and Up: Cut into small bite-sized pieces and serve with fruit and yogurt.
12 Months and Up: Serve whole or in fun shapes with toppings like peanut butter, fresh berries, or a sprinkle of cinnamon. You can drizzle a little maple syrup for added sweetness.
