Baby Serving Guide
9 months+: Use chicken nuggets that are fully cooked, tender and easy to squash between your fingers.
Keep the waffle exterior soft rather than very crisp. Allow the bites to cool to a safe temperature before serving.
Depending on your baby's self-feeding skills, offer a manageable piece that is easy to grasp and chew.
Baby-Friendly Tips
- Salt: The original recipe contains ¼ tsp salt. It has been omitted here for the 9M+ baby-adapted version.
- Chicken nuggets: Prefer homemade or lower-sodium nuggets with a soft, tender texture.
- Avoid nuggets with a very hard, thick or brittle coating.
- Maple syrup: The recipe uses maple syrup. Do not substitute honey for babies under 12 months.
- Egg: Egg is a common allergen.
- Milk: Dairy milk is a common allergen.
- Wheat: All-purpose flour contains wheat.
- Packaged chicken nuggets may contain additional allergens, so check the ingredient label before serving.
- Always serve baby seated upright and under close adult supervision.
Recipe Tips
- Make sure the waffle maker is fully preheated before adding the coated nuggets.
- Lightly press the waffle maker so the batter spreads evenly around the chicken.
- For the 9M+ version, avoid cooking the bites longer just to make them extra crisp.
Storage
- Fridge: Store leftover waffle bites in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Freezer: Let them cool completely and freeze in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
- Reheat: Reheat in a toaster or air fryer until warmed through. For babies, avoid making the exterior excessively hard or crispy.
