Why You’ll Love These

  • Naturally coloured with beetroot
  • Sweetened with maple syrup
  • Fun shapes little ones will love
  • Perfect for lunchboxes or treats
  • Easy dough with simple ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 125 g butter, at room temperature
  • 3 cups plain/all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 125 g cooked beetroot

Instructions

  1. Begin by creaming the room-temperature butter with the maple syrup. Mix on low for 2–3 minutes.

  3. Place the cooked beetroot and milk into a blender and blend until completely smooth.
  4. Add the beetroot mixture to the bowl and stir with a wooden spoon.
  5. Add the flour and bring the dough together.
  6. Transfer the dough to your countertop and knead until fully combined, with no visible flour remaining.
  7. Wrap in cling wrap and place in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  8. Lightly flour your workbench and roll the dough out to about 5 mm thick.
  9. Cut out shapes using your favourite cookie cutters.
  10. Place onto a lined baking tray.
  11. Bake at 180Β°C for 8–10 minutes, or until the sides are just starting to brown.
  12. Check from 7 minutes onwards so they don’t burn.

Recipe Notes

  • The beetroot gives these biscuits their fun pink colour without needing food dye.
  • Animal cutters make them extra exciting for little ones.
  • Because they bake quickly, keep a close eye on them near the end.

Serving Idea

These are lovely as a lunchbox addition or occasional snack alongside fruit, yogurt, or milk for older toddlers and children.

Baby & Toddler Serving Note

Best suited for 12 months+ due to the firmer biscuit texture and sweet treat style of the recipe. For younger toddlers, offer only if they are confident with textured finger foods and always serve in an age-appropriate way while supervising closely.
