Vegetable Rice Balls – A Soft, Nutritious Finger Food for Little Ones 8 Months & Up 🍚🥦
These Vegetable Rice Balls are soft, naturally flavorful, and perfect for babies 8 months and up, toddlers, and young kids. Made with cooked white rice, steamed broccoli, mashed sweet potato, and shredded cheese, they’re ideal for baby-led weaning and little ones learning to self-feed.
They’re easy to prep ahead, great for using up cooked rice, and a simple way to introduce veggies in a form that’s easy for tiny hands to pick up, hold, and enjoy.
Just 4 Ingredients – Full of Goodness
- Cooked white rice: Soft, neutral, and easy to mold – perfect for babies getting used to textured solids.
- Steamed broccoli: Rich in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants for growing bodies.
- Sweet potato: Naturally sweet and creamy, full of vitamin A, potassium, and beta-carotene.
- Shredded cheese: Adds flavor, protein, and calcium for strong bones and teeth.

- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1/2 medium sweet potato
- 3–4 broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese
- Avocado oil for spraying
Directions
- Have everything ready beforehand: cooked white rice (leftover rice works well).
- Steam the broccoli and sweet potato for about 15 minutes, until soft.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Add the steamed veggies to a mixing bowl and mash.
- Add the white rice and shredded cheese, then combine everything together. The mixture should be soft and sticky enough to hold its shape.
- Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a small ball. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and lightly spray with avocado oil.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- Let cool for 15 minutes and enjoy.
